Greenhill Parish Conservation

Forty-five acres of valuable green space located in Northeast Richland County protects wetlands and ecology of the Spears Creek Watershed. It also provides outdoor trails and recreation to local homeowners for active living recreation. Greenhill Parish Conservation area is a great example of a volunteer development and county partnership to protect the environment and enhance communities.



Connor Conservation Area

The first conservation easement held by Richland County is the 30 acre tract owned by Carol Connor on the Broad River. The easement protects floodplain, a historic cabin over 120 years old, and acres of hardwood forest in an area of exploding growth.



Barber House Historic Restoration

The two room house, built by freed slaves Sam and Harriett Barber in 1872, has been added onto numerous times but has always stayed in the family. Restoration of the house through grants from the RCCC will preserve this National Register property while providing educational context and community meeting space.



701 Whaley Historic Restoration

Purchased just on the brink of its being past saving, the old heart of the Olympia community is being restored with grants from the RCCC. Once the community center and YMCA, 701 Whaley will again be central to the neighborhood, providing live/work units, a rental hall, retail space, and possibly an art gallery.
