Richland County has participated in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) since 1979.
Richland County’s Floodplain Management mission is to:
Protect property owners by restricting, or prohibiting uses in flood prone areas that are
dangerous to their health, safety, or property in times of flood.
Certain areas within Richland County are subject to periodic inundation by floodwater,
which results or may be reasonably foreseen to result in loss of life or property, health
and safety hazards, disruption of commerce and governmental services and extraordinary
public expenditures for flood protection and relief. Also, the property owners located
within the county that is subject to periodic inundation to obtain flood insurance
through the National Flood Insurance Program.
