Photo Winners
The Richland Conservation District Earth Day Photo winners from left are Allison Rogers (AC Flora High School), Tristany Horton and Andrew Gordon from Blythewood High School. Judging this year was difficult due to the excellent and creative entries. This year's theme was The Secrets of Soil.
Poster Winners
The Earth Day Poster contest is always a hotly contested competition from students (pictured) who spend a lot of time researching their topic. This year the students learned that soil is more than just dirt. With this year's topic "The Secrets of Soil" the students learned that fertile soil only covers 1/8 of the earth's surface and takes thousands of years to develop.
Essay Winners
The Essay contest was very informative. This year the students (pictured) studied different types of soil and learned about nature's decomposers, organisms that helps break down plant and animal remains. The entire Earth, every ecosystem, every living organism, is either directly or indirectly dependent upon soil.
